Notice for Graduate Applicants Seeking Research Assistantships

Research assistantships in the areas of machine learning, pattern recognition, natural language processing may be available in Fall 2021. If you are interested in the RAships in my group, please e-mail me the following items:

Resume (refer to my resume as an example): in your resume, please provide the following information
- Your rank in your class/department if available, e.g., your rank is 6/138 (or 6th out of 138 students)
- Your undergraduate GPA (in 4.0 and/or 100 point scale or the scale used in your school) and if available, graduate GPA (in 4.0 and/or 100 point scale or the scale used in your school)
- List of your publications
- GRE score, and (for international students) TOEFL scores
- Working experience (if available)
- Your phone number (office and/or home and/or cell phone)
Personal statement (describing your motivation and experience)
Research statement (describing your research achievement and your plan for your Ph.D. study)
International publications in English (if you have more than 3 papers, send me three of your best papers)
Transcripts in English (if you have a master degree, please send me both undergraduate and graduate transcripts; if you are Chinese, please also send me your transcripts in Chinese)
Copy of diploma for bachelor degree (and master degree if you received master degree)

The requirements for a research assistant are:

Master degree earned or to be earned before your enrollment in the Ph.D. program at the Dept. of ECE, U. of Florida (if you are a senior undergraduate student, you need to have research papers (published or unpublished) so that I can evaluate your research potential)

Master thesis in the areas of my research interests

International conference or journal publications in the areas of my research interests (you must have international publications to be considered)

GPA>=3.5 (required by the ECE department)

GRE and TOEFL (for international students) scores satisfy the ECE department requirements

The RAship will only be given to Ph.D. applicants who satisfy all the above requirements. I judge the performance of an applicant mainly based on international publications (in English). Due to a large number of emails I receive every day, I reply to the applicants only if I need more information, or decide to interview the applicants. If you are offered the RAship and choose to join my group, I look forward to giving you an enjoyable and rewarding experience working with me.

For those who have sent me emails, I am sorry if you haven't heard from me. Due to the large number of emails I receive every day, I may not be able to reply to each email. But I encourage you to apply to University of Florida. It is a nice place to pursue your Ph.D. or M.S. The ECE department offers many fellowships and TA positions to new students each year.

If you do not get admitted to my group or University of Florida, I hope you are not discouraged. Keep up the good work. I believe you will eventually join a school that you like, lead a happy life, and you will make a difference. No matter where you are and what hardship you are facing, be optimistic and keep working toward your goal. You will be rewarded for your effort. Hard work always pays off.
